What Is DACA deferred action?

DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was introduced to provide temporary relief from deportation and work authorization to undocumented individuals who came to the United States as children. The program allows eligible individuals, commonly known as "Dreamers," to request deferred action, which temporarily prevents their deportation.

However, it's important to understand that deferred action is a discretionary determination to temporarily delay the removal of an individual. It does not provide a path to citizenship or permanent legal status. Therefore, while DACA provides temporary legal status, work authorization, and the opportunity to obtain a Social Security number, it does not grant permanent legal residency or citizenship.

It's worth noting that future applicants may face certain risks, such as changes in immigration policies. Despite these risks, DACA continues to provide important benefits to eligible individuals seeking relief from deportation and work authorization.
